Your craft room is your safe haven, your favorite space to indulge all of your creative talents. But from ribbons to paintbrushes to glue sticks, there are a lot of items you need to keep track of. The little things can get lost in drawers or under desks, while the big things might just take up a little too much space for craft room storage.
Let’s look at the most creative ways to make and use craft room storage in your project room. After all, what’s the point of a craft room if you don’t get crafty with your storage solutions?

1. Kitchen Supplies are Your Friend
Need craft room storage for the little things? No problem! Take inspiration from your kitchen. You can use some things you might not need every day, such as a cheese grater or even some Tupperware bins, and use them as buckets to store your favorite crafting pieces. Even leftover egg and milk cartons make good little cubbies for things like Super Glue, string, and thread! Mason jars are good for storing buttons, especially because they are clear so you can see everything inside. (Plus, it makes for a great crafty decoration, too!)
2. Drawers for Your Ribbons
Ribbons are some of the major crafting components of just about every kind of craft. From wrapping presents to making custom bowties, you probably have tons of ribbon lying around. You should invest in a new little cabinet or storage unit with individual drawers that are dedicated solely to your ribbon collection.
HGTV suggests sorting your ribbons by color, too. It may take some time in the beginning, but you’ll be thanking yourself time and time again after that.
3. Bars and Shower Rods
Installing rods and bars across the available space between your desks, walls, and other workspaces can make for great places to store rolls of wrapping paper. Anything that rolls up, like art paper or ribbon, can also be hung from this handy hanging device. Even smaller items like washi tape or strings of chains for your hand-crafted jewelry would do well to hang on these bars. It gets them out of the way and clears up your workspace of clutter!
4. Pegboards
Another thrifty craft room storage idea to keep your desk and floor space free of clutter is pegboard. This is something you can hang from your wall and put pegs in, which allow you to hang up smaller items. This is a great idea for any of your gift bags or small baskets that can hang easily from the wall. If the pegs are thin enough, you can even place individual spools of thread on each one, so not only will you have an organized space, but you’ll have a beautiful wall of threads to pick from whenever you need them.
5. Stackable and Foldable Bins
Some things are a little too big to hang on the wall or stuff in a drawer. You may need to have some real storage bins for your heartier supplies. But that’s okay because there are still plenty of creative ways to make them organized! One of our favorites is the use of stackable bins. They can be cloth, wood, or plastic, and they can neatly stack up in your closet or in the corner of your room. Just be sure to label the front of them so you know exactly where everything is!
Foldable bins also work, and they can make for cute cubby space, as pointed out by The Happy Housie. Try your hand at it and see how you like it!
