Creating a Beautiful Homemade Candle

First thing’s first when it comes to crafting: safety! To ensure that no one and nothing gets harmed during your homemade candle project, make sure you have found the best surface for which to set your wax and create the candle. Be sure to note the temperature that the wax will be at so that you can be ready with protective gloves and a cooling pad when it has fully melted. Other equipment you’ll need is the right kind of wick for the specific wax you have chosen, the wax itself, a holder for the wax to be poured into, a place to heat the wax-like your stove, protective equipment, and something to light your new candle with! To begin, you’ll want to choose the kind of wax, including color, scent, and the form of solid; like flakes or bricks, to heat. Begin by placing enough of the wax you have chosen to fit the holder into the pot you are using to heat and melt with. Set the stove on medium, and let the wax begin to melt. While this is happening, choose your wick, and place it in the bottom of the candle holder you have chosen.

Once your wax has melted all the way through, you can add any coloring or scent that you would like if you chose a plain wax to make your candle. Now that your wax is ready, it’s time to pour it over the wick you have placed in the bottom of the holder. To ensure that your wax is thoroughly melted, use a fork to gently move through the liquid, or move the pot around to examine the mixture. Carefully, with protective gloves, pick up the pot, and pour your wax into the holder of your choice. If you have more than one person making candles, pouring the wax over the wick is easy! Have one person holding up the wick, while the other pours and sets the wax around it. If only one person is making the candle, using tape, popsicle sticks or even skewers to secure the wick in place. When the wax has set, you can cut the wick to the appropriate length, and wait about five minutes for your new candle to dry!

DIY Crafting Ideas

There are also fun ideas to add to your candle making process if you are looking for a more unique design. Melting wax of different colors, and layering the wax to create a pattern is a cute and interesting technique to try! You can also layer by scents so that as your candle burns, a new scent emerges slowly and the scents even blur together at some points!
