Kitchen Safety and Sanitization: How to Keep Your Cabinets Clean

Cleaning kitchen cabinets

A kitchen that has been fully renovated is a sight to see, and it can be awe-inspiring for friends and neighbors who visit your home. But there’s a laborious secret behind keeping your kitchen so immaculate: cleaning. Kitchen safety and sanitization are should be top priority.

Unfortunately, keeping your kitchen clean is the best way to continue showing off your beautiful high-end designs. But it takes more than just a light washing down. You’re going to have to get into the nitty-gritty of the darkest kitchen corners to keep things looking pristine.

For our experts at LEICHT LA, that usually means that most of the time is spent on the cabinets. With custom installation specifications and plenty of edges and corners, it takes a particular skill to clean this part of the kitchen.

Here’s what we’ve learned about the best ways to keep your cabinets clean and your kitchen sanitized.

Start with Dusting

The best way to tackle something as complex as cleaning cabinets is to start with the basics. Do some simpler surface tasks like dusting, which is a requirement for the rest of your cleaning tasks anyway. Even though your cabinets have lots of vertical angles, you’d be surprised to find out that dust can still collect on them.

Use a cloth or a duster to get rid of leftover debris and particles that may have gathered on your cabinets. That will make it easier for you to finish the rest of your cleaning.

Get Rid of Grease

The most significant damage that your cabinets will sustain throughout the years is a buildup of grease – especially if you like to cook a lot. It’s just natural for grease and grime to permeate the air and eventually stick onto the cabinets that sit near your cooking appliances. There are many different products and solutions you can use to best break down this buildup of grime.

Molly Maid recommends a homemade solution of half water and half vinegar in a spray bottle. Use it with a rag to start scrubbing the grease away. Other homemade cleaning solutions include:

  • A combination fo soap and water using a friendly detergent that won’t scrape away paint or varnish. Try Dawn products as a good place to start.
  • Combine vinegar with hot water if the grease is particularly hard to get off.
  • A soft cloth will wipe away the remaining residue.

Anything that is non-abrasive should do the trick quite nicely. But just remember, to really get rid of grease, you’ll need to put in some grease of your own – elbow grease, that is!

Prevent Moisture Damage on Wood

Your cabinets are most likely manufactured using good-quality wood, and it would be a tragedy if that wood were to get ruined. If some of your cabinets are warping or growing in size, it may be due to water damage.

Even if you have never spilled water on your cabinets, they can retain moisture in other ways. For example, if you have a toaster or a coffee maker set up on the counter, the cabinets directly above these appliances may be affected by the steam these machines put out. Make sure to use a sponge to clean these parts of the cabinets. Also, get in touch with your professional cabinetry experts if you need to assess the damage further.
